For generations of Australians, the mower that showed up season after season didn’t just live in the shed - it lived in the weekends, summers, and backyards. Victa, a familiar name in lawn and garden care, returns to Aussie hands under the local ownership of Queensland-based brand Roy Gripske & Sons.
A trusted name in Australian backyards since the 1950s, Victa has been part of the Australian soundtrack for over 70 years - delivering and supporting backyard gardeners and landscapers.
Now, for the first time since 2008, Roy Gripske & Sons is bringing Victa back to Australian hands, renewing a commitment to the innovation and quality that made the brand a household name.
Growing alongside suburban households and earning its place as an Australian icon, the brand became a backyard staple, producing more than 140,000 mowers per year by the late 1950s. From partnering with a rugby league team in the late 70s, to opening the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000, Victa’s legacy wasn’t built on big moments alone - it was built on everyday ones.
Victa’s return to Australian ownership comes through Roy Grispke & Sons, a 100% Aussie-owned company founded in Queensland. Originally founded on supplying and servicing Victa power equipment, Roy Gripske & Sons - Australia’s largest wholesaler of outdoor power equipment and spare parts - is proud to return Victa to Australian soil, alongside trusted brands including Bushranger Power Equipment, Gravely and Stiga.
A family-owned business since 1964, Roy Gripske & Sons’ (RGS) story began with founder Roy Gripske, who started servicing and supplying spare outdoor power equipment parts from his garage and ute in Redcliffe, Queensland - with Victa being a key brand in his business.
That same entrepreneurial spirit continued under the leadership of Paul Gripske, who recognised a clear gap in the market and relaunched the wholesale business to address an industry-wide lack of service, range and competitive pricing.
The Gripske family’s dedication to continuous improvement and innovation honors their long-standing vision for quality products, marking the return of Victa to the Australian market especially memorable.
Paul Sheehan, CEO and Director of Roy Gripske & Sons, says the acquisition represents a full-circle moment for RGS and the Gripske family, making Victa’s return to Australian ownership especially meaningful and honours a shared legacy for local innovation.
“My grandfather and parents owned a Victa, and chances are every Aussie has had a touchpoint with a Victa at some point,”
“The acquisition is about preserving Australian innovation, strengthening our domestic manufacturing and ensuring that our customers continue to have even more access to high-quality, trusted products, " says Sheehan.
Acquiring Victa from American company Briggs & Stratton, Roy Grispke & Sons is proud to honour the history with the first locally made product expected to ship from the Queensland warehouse in 2026.
With the acquisition now in effect, Victa marks a new era of local investment, innovation and support. Australians can expect more product availability, stronger service networks and a renewed commitment to quality.
With the vision of reconnecting Australian households and celebrating the brand’s legacy, Victa’s return home signals its commitment to both products and the people. Victa has partnered with the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) as a Major Corporate Supporter. With the partnership kicking off with the Oceans to Outback initiative, the renewed growth will continue through initiatives like Giving Day on the 11th March.
For a brand that has always served Australian households, now heralds a new era for supporting communities.
Now, Australian-owned once again, Roy Gripske & Sons will power Victa’s next chapter through local innovation and a continued commitment to the quality and service standards Aussie backyards know and trust.
Victa’s return to Australian ownership carries deep significance and reaffirms a long-held commitment to championing local innovation.
